Design Awards thoughts
by Mads Sætter-Lassen

‘It was after winning the Northern Design Award in 2015 that I began to take myself seriously as a designer’.

Designer, Graduate of the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, and winner of a Northern Design Award, Mads Sætter-Lassen tells us more about the values and inspirations behind the Buddy lamp.

What guides your creative process?

My approach is to keep things simple, to challenge an object’s practical purpose, ensuring it is useful as well as beautiful.

What did winning a Northern Design Award mean to you?

It was my big break, and when I began to take myself seriously as a designer. The Buddy table lamp was designed to solve a problem, and is, ‘the little helper everyone needs.’

‘The idea was to create a lamp where I could save some space by merging functions together’.

What was the inspiration for the Buddy lamp?

I had a small desk to work from so wanted to create a space saving lamp by merging functions. I love how strong the design looks and how the series has developed. Buddy lamps look minimal but are packed full of character.
