For Norwegian designer Atle Tveit, good design is synonymous with simple design. From his Oslo based studio, which he started in 2006 after graduating from Bergen Academy of Art and Design, he collaborates with a variety of furniture and lighting manufacturers across the Nordic region and beyond.

Atle Tvelt is also the recipient of several design awards, among them the Award for Design Excellence and the Young Talent Award from The Norwegian Design Council, along with Designer of The Year from leading lifestyle and interior design magazine Bo Bedre.

Since 2012 Atle Tveit has been a part of the company’s community of designer with his Acorn design.

What was the inspiration behind the Acorn design?

The original – Acorn Pendant Lamp – was inspired by the Nordic forests during fall, and more specifically the top shape of the oak tree nuts, or acorns. Acorn Floor Lamp is a further development of the original that in my opinion has its own distinct character and is a natural addition to the family.

What qualities do you want your product to bring to everyday lives?

I hope my products can offer both functionality and positive feelings into people’s life – meaning that the owner unconsciously connects to the product in a positive way, through use as well as aesthetics, and look to keep it for a long time. A product needs to create some positive feelings for people to want to keep it, to ensure a long lifespan. I think both functionality and aesthetics, as well as good material choices, can play a part in achieving that.

What does home mean to you?

To me home means relaxation and family time. A private setting, a retreat, where you are surrounded by positive elements – whether it is people; family members and guests, or items you hold dear. Objects that you have inherited or found in a local flea market, or belongings from when you were young. Or something you have longed for. I have a favourite chair that I had been dreaming of for years before I went and bought it, and I use it as often as I can. Today, my latest addition of Acorn Floor Lamp stands next to it – It’s a perfect reading setup.
